We hear this from families everyday. We see this in our classes. Some teenagers attending our school are excited about their future, have goals and actually ask their parents/grandparents to sign them up for classes.
We also have students who drift into class, because their parents make them attend. They are disinterested, focused on their phones and video games. They have minimal sense of anything other than themselves, and it is frightening.
How do we know this? Personal experience. We have grandchildren and we see what they are exposed to. We are experts in training, yet we face the same issues all parents and grandparents face to try and lead them toward "refinement" positive social interaction and acceptance.
