1. Nail biting
This is another habit that people may find irritating and may be a big turn-off for those around you. You simply need to avoid this whether you are nervous or just bored. Finding something else to do during such situations may help you avoid this.
2. Habitual lying
Lying is never acceptable, regardless of the circumstances. Taking responsibility is always the best course of action. Eventually habitual lying shows its ugly head. People will find it increasingly difficult to trust you. The only way out of this habit is to tell the truth, always.
3. Bad temper
A perpetually foul mood or unpredictable temperament is a terrible habit. People who are unable to handle pressure may not be very likable. Being tough is different from a bad temper. The better you are at self control the better a person you become.
4. Constant complaining
Constantly dissatisfied people are a complete turn off. This habit can be kicked by changing those things which you feel are wrong or adapting to those you cannot change.
People will gradually start avoiding you if you are considered a "cheap-skate". Simple gestures such as sharing a lunch tab are important to to your reputation. And do it with enthusiasm.
6. Leave-me-alone attitude
If you isolate yourself from friends, over time they will also start avoiding you. Independence and self sufficiency are desirable only to a given extent. Learn to interact more with people to create stronger connections. Keep a trustworthy company of friends.
7. Dressing inappropriately
Different occasions require appropriate clothing. You would not wear short-shorts, a tank top and flip flops to formal wedding. Failure to adhere to such codes (it is not hard) will only make you and the people around you uncomfortable. Be prepared for some "chuckling". Eventually invitations will disappear.
8. Nose picking
Disgusting as it is, not only does it go against all the rules of personal etiquette, it is potentially harmful for your health. Picking your nose exposes you to viral infections and may lead to illnesses such as cold and cough. You may also be susceptible to stomach infections if you touch infected things with your fingers then using them to poke your nose. You can avoid this irritation by using a handkerchief or going to the wash room if need be.
9. Poor body language
Making silly faces, twitching eyebrows, not standing properly and not maintaining eye contact are some of the mannerisms that reveal poor body language. We all watch each other like proverbial hawks. Body language is like a window to the soul. People, like it or not, make a quick determination about you when you display poor body language skills.
We all procrastinate to some extent. Fish or steak for dinner, hmmmmm. Cut the grass now or tomorrow, hmmmmmmm. What we are talking about is the person who never seems able to make a decision and when they do, the follow-though is non-existent. Putting off projects and tasks can affect your productivity and the quality of your work and that of your colleagues. Avoid this by keeping a timetable of the duties you are required to perform and simply doing what you said you would do.
Etiquette training schools can easily help you overcome these habits. The goal is to help develop a well-rounded happy and mature adult.
